The European Health Psychology Meeting was organized by the Health Psychology Group of the British Psychological Association on 9-12 September 2008 in Bath, England.
The first condition for healthy working is undoubtedly being healthy. The aim of the field of science in question is to produce services in a wide spectrum ranging from psychological health to physical health in society and business life. Based on psychological theories, academics in the field conduct intervention studies that will encourage self-management, improving coping skills, improving quality of life and prolonging active life.
One of the important speeches of the congress this year was given by Prof. Suzie Skevington did it. Prof. Skevington talked about the quality of life studies carried out with WHO. He explained the physiological and psychological dimensions involved in the work of the “Quality of Life” international committee. In the psychological dimension, he focused on positive and negative emotions, thinking, learning, self-efficacy and self-confidence, body image and spiritual emotions. He stated that data was collected in four variables in the new adaptation of the quality of life assessment scales and talked about studies on “Objective Quality of Life”, “Perceived Quality of Life”, Subjective Quality of Life” and “Environmental Quality of Life”.
Another notable speaker, Prof Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, is a lecturer in psychology and psychiatry at the Ohio State University School of Medicine. He conveyed the long-term effects of cytokines, a group of proteins and peptides that are provoked by chronic stress and enable cells to communicate with each other. They perform their functions through cell surface cycotine receptors. Its oscillations are temporary. Cytokines stimulate cell proliferation by binding to receptors on cells. He specifically cited studies showing that IL-6 cycotine is associated with cancer, coronary heart disease, Type II diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis.
He shared new medical findings showing that acquiring skills to cope with life stresses is directly related to life expectancy and quality of life.
First of all, the studies that started in 1973 at the American Psychological Association were initiated by Zuhal Baltas in 1975 at the IU CTF Preventive Medicine and Public Health chair. Since 1983, Batlaş Group has been providing scientific data in this academic field to institutions in our country with approaches that increase the productivity and quality of life of company employees.
