H.R. The Magazine’s 3rd Strategic Management Summit was held on March 4, 2014. Prof. Dr. Zuhal Baltas opened the Summit with her speech titled “Innovative Culture in Company Strategies”.
Zuhal Baltas started her speech by saying that companies will shape the future with their strategies; He detailed the importance of strategy, the place of HR in strategy and innovation.
Sharing that institutions need to create an innovative culture in order to survive in today’s world, Baltas explained to the participants with an enjoyable explanation the place that innovative culture can bring to institutions, with examples such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Zuckerberg.
Based on a quote from Steve Jobs, Zuhal Baltas stated that innovation cannot take place unless conditions force it, and stated that HR has a great responsibility in creating innovative corporate strategies and determining the corporate philosophy, policies, processes and practices.
Pointing out that HR today should focus on how to develop people by using information and technology, Baltas pointed out that it should blend traditional and innovative methods in the right proportion. He shared that the behavioral change that HR wants to achieve will be achieved if the individual’s group acts together to change behavior, based on social learning theory.
Zuhal Baltas stated that another important concept in order to create an innovation culture is that employees with entrepreneurial characteristics should be brought into the institution and mentioned that the entrepreneurial characteristics of the employee can be measured with the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Scale GINO developed by the Baltas Group. Finally, Zuhal Baltas conveyed to the participants the video prepared by HEINEKEN on recruitment in order to show that there is no limit to what HR can do, and thanked the participants by underlining that people who will energize the organization with their enthusiasm should be selected.
