LEADERSHIP AS A JOURNEY

“LEADERSHIP as a Journey”
The race to reach the South Pole between British Robert F. Scott and Norwegian Roald Amundsen in 1911 is a unique opportunity to make comparisons between ‘good leadership’ and ‘bad leadership’. The story of another South Pole explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, who lost his ship stuck in the ice in Antarctica but returned alive to England with his entire team two years later, continues to be an important source of inspiration for today’s leaders.
Expeditions to the South Pole were similar to discovering new continents in the Middle Ages, landing on the Moon in the 1960s, and attempting to go to Mars and Venus today. Understanding the passions of the people who ventured on these journeys full of dangers and building bridges between the problems they face and today’s leaders will create great awareness in the reader’s understanding of leadership and management.
